Dorothy Helen McCool was born in Bates Missouri, to James Adam Gettis McCool and Lucinda Terry.  As the Civil War progressed, James McCool bought land in Texas in the area of Whitesboro and began to start moving his family and slaves to Texas.  Dorothy's brothers and sisters included Samuel McCool, Mary Jane McCool, Martisia E. McCool, Henrietta M McCool, Zachariah McCool (black), Dicky B McCool, Victoria McCool, Price McCool, Anne L. McCool, and Rufus T. McCool.  She married Richard Hunter Brothers in 1871 in Grayson County. Her children were Della James Brothers, Richard Burdoux Brothers, John Price Brothers, Benjamin Franklin Brothers, Jessie Brothers and Victoria Jane Brothers.
